PHP is the programming language behind WordPress, WooCommerce, Joomla, Drupal and most web applications. The PHP version you run directly affects the speed, security and functionality of your site. Newer PHP releases are significantly faster — PHP 8.2 is up to 3× faster than PHP 7.0 for WordPress operations.

PHP Version in cPanel

1

Open MultiPHP Manager in cPanel

Log into cPanel (yourdomain.com/cpanel or :2083). Under Software, click MultiPHP Manager.

2

Pick the PHP version

Tick the domain you want to change, then pick the desired PHP version from the dropdown. For most modern WordPress sites we recommend PHP 8.1 or 8.2.

3

Configure PHP.INI settings

In cPanel open MultiPHP INI Editor and tune memory_limit (256M), upload_max_filesize (64M), post_max_size (64M) and max_execution_time (300).

4

Test site compatibility

After the switch, walk through every key page, test forms, e-commerce flows, the admin panel and every plugin. For WordPress install the PHP Compatibility Checker plugin.

5

Resolve compatibility issues

On problems, update all plugins, deactivate them one by one to isolate the culprit, check theme compatibility, review the PHP error log and roll back via MultiPHP Manager if needed. Back up first.

FAQ

Odgovori na najčešća pitanja o našim uslugama.

For WordPress sites, we recommend PHP 8.1 or 8.2. These versions offer excellent performance, full compatibility with WordPress core and most plugins. PHP 8.2 brings up to 20% speed improvement over PHP 7.4. WordPress 6.x officially supports PHP 8.0-8.5, but PHP 8.1 and 8.2 have the best plugin and theme compatibility. Avoid PHP 7.4 which no longer receives security patches.

Yes, changing the PHP version can cause issues if your plugins, themes or custom code use deprecated PHP functions. That is why it is important to: take a full backup before changing, test on a staging environment if possible, check plugin compatibility, and have a rollback plan. On BeoHosting, you can easily roll back to the previous PHP version via cPanel if issues arise.

Several ways: in cPanel open MultiPHP Manager and you see the PHP version for each domain. In WordPress, go to Tools → Site Health → Info → Server where the PHP version is shown. You can also create a phpinfo.php file with and open it in the browser. Do not forget to delete phpinfo.php after the check — it reveals sensitive server info.

We recommend updating PHP every time a new stable version becomes available and your plugins confirm compatibility — typically 2-3 months after release. Each PHP version has active support for 2 years and security patches for one additional year. Follow the PHP lifecycle page for support deadlines. On BeoHosting, new PHP versions are available after the initial stabilization period.

OPcache is a PHP extension that caches compiled PHP code in memory, which dramatically speeds up script execution. On BeoHosting, OPcache is enabled by default and optimally configured. You can check status in phpinfo() or via cPanel. Key settings: opcache.memory_consumption=128, opcache.max_accelerated_files=10000, opcache.revalidate_freq=60. Do not disable OPcache except for debugging.
