This guide shows how to set up forwarders in cPanel, configure a catch-all address, and avoid spam pitfalls.
How to Set Up Email Forwarder
Open Forwarders in cPanel
cPanel → Email → Forwarders. You see existing forwarders and options to add new ones. Two types: "Forwarders" (single address) and "Forward All Email to Domain" (catch-all).
Create a single address forwarder
Click "Add Forwarder". Enter the address (e.g. info) and destination (e.g. yourname@gmail.com). Click "Add Forwarder". Any email to info@yourdomain.com now forwards to your Gmail.
Set up a catch-all forwarder
For "anything@yourdomain.com" → forward all. Click "Add Domain Forwarder" or "Default Address" → set "Forward to email address". Catch-all catches typos but also catches spam.
Verify forwarding works
Send a test email to info@yourdomain.com. Check destination inbox — should arrive in 1-2 minutes. If not, check spam folder first, then verify destination is correct.
Handle SPF/DKIM/DMARC for forwarded mail
When you forward, SPF/DKIM from original sender may break. Modern providers (Gmail, Outlook) handle via SRS (Sender Rewriting Scheme). If forwarded mail bounces or goes to spam, configure SRS or use ImprovMX.

Forwarder uses no disk space — just redirects. Mailbox stores email on the server, you connect via IMAP/POP. Use forwarder for reading in an existing inbox (Gmail). Use mailbox for separate professional accounts.
Why is forwarded mail in spam?
Most likely SPF/DKIM break. The forwarding server is not authorized to send "on behalf of" the original sender. Gmail/Outlook usually handle gracefully — if not, enable SRS or use ImprovMX.
Can I forward to multiple addresses?
Yes — in cPanel Forwarders, you can add multiple destination addresses for the same source. Email gets copied to all destinations.
Are catch-all forwarders dangerous?
They magnify spam — spammers blast random addresses (asd@yourdomain.com), all of which forward to you. Use catch-all only on hardened domains with strong spam filtering, or avoid and create specific forwarders.
What is the difference between a forwarder and an email alias?
An email forwarder redirects messages from one address to another — you cannot send messages FROM the forwarder address. An email alias is an alternative name for an existing email account — you can both receive and send with the alias address. If you only need to receive messages on another account, a forwarder is enough. If you also want to send from that address (e.g. info@yourcompany.com), you will need an email account or an alias.
