A subdomain is an extension of your main domain that lets you spin up separate sections of your site with independent content and functionality. For example, with yourdomain.com you can create blog.yourdomain.com, shop.yourdomain.com or staging.yourdomain.com — each behaves like its own site.

Subdomain in cPanel

1

Open Subdomains in cPanel

Log into cPanel and open the Subdomains tool under the Domains section.

2

Enter the subdomain name

In the Subdomain field type the prefix (e.g. blog) and select the parent domain. cPanel auto-fills the document root.

3

Set the document root

Default path is public_html/subdomain. You can change it (e.g. public_html/blog) for a cleaner folder structure.

4

Install a CMS or upload the site

Open Softaculous and install WordPress directly into the subdomain folder, or upload files via FTP / File Manager into the subdomain htdocs.

5

Configure DNS for the subdomain

If the subdomain lives on the same server, cPanel auto-creates the A record. For an external server add an A record manually pointing to the correct IP.

6

Install SSL for the subdomain

Open SSL/TLS Status, tick the subdomain and click Run AutoSSL — within minutes you get a free SSL valid for the subdomain.

FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about our services.

A subdomain is a prefix added before your main domain, for example: blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. A subdomain functions as an independent site with its own files, database and settings, but does not require a separate domain registration. Common uses: blog, online store, staging/test site, web application, help desk, or regional version of the site (sr.domain.com, en.domain.com).

On BeoHosting, you can create unlimited subdomains on all hosting packages without extra cost. Each subdomain uses your hosting resources (disk space, bandwidth, RAM), so keep that in mind if you create many subdomains with demanding applications. In practice, most users use 2-5 subdomains. Each subdomain can host a separate WordPress or other CMS install.

Depends on the purpose. For SEO, subfolders (domain.com/blog) are usually better because they inherit the authority of the main domain. For separate applications or projects requiring independence (different CMS, different PHP version, separate team), subdomains are better. Use a subdomain for: staging site, web application, online store on a different platform. Use a subfolder for: blog, service pages, regional content on the same CMS.

Yes, every subdomain needs an SSL certificate for HTTPS access. On BeoHosting, free Let's Encrypt SSL is automatically installed for every new subdomain. Alternatively, you can use a Wildcard SSL certificate (*.yourdomain.com) which covers the main domain and all subdomains with a single cert. Wildcard SSL is more convenient with many subdomains. Check SSL status in cPanel under SSL/TLS Status.

In cPanel, go to Subdomains, find the subdomain you want to delete and click "Remove". This removes the subdomain from the server configuration but does not automatically delete files in the document root. To fully clean up, after deletion go to File Manager and remove the directory manually. Also delete the database if you created one for that subdomain. Take a backup before deletion just in case.
