SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the set of techniques and strategies for improving the visibility of your website in organic (unpaid) search results on Google and other search engines. The goal of SEO is to rank as high as possible for the keywords that matter to your business.

Do keyword research
Find the keywords your target audience searches. Use Google Keyword Planner (free), Ubersuggest or Ahrefs. Look for keywords with decent search volume (100+/month) and moderate competition. Target a mix of head terms (broad) and long-tail (specific) keywords. Document them in a spreadsheet.
Optimize on-page SEO
For each page set: a unique title tag (under 60 chars) with the main keyword, a meta description (under 160 chars) that summarizes the page, an H1 with the main keyword, H2-H6 for structure, descriptive URLs (/services/web-design instead of /?p=42), and alt text on every image.
Fix technical SEO
Submit an XML sitemap to Google Search Console. Ensure the site is mobile-friendly (Google uses mobile-first indexing). Optimize load speed (Core Web Vitals — LCP < 2.5s, INP < 200ms, CLS < 0.1). Use HTTPS everywhere. Fix broken links and 404 errors.
Create quality content
Publish 800-1500 word articles answering your audience's questions. Use the target keyword 3-7 times naturally (avoid keyword stuffing). Include images, videos and internal links. Update old content regularly — freshness is a ranking signal.
Build backlinks (off-page SEO)
Backlinks from authoritative sites are one of the strongest ranking factors. Earn them through: guest posts on industry blogs, partnerships, PR (press releases), creating linkable assets (infographics, original research), broken-link building and HARO (Help A Reporter Out).
Do local SEO
For local businesses: create and optimize Google Business Profile, collect Google reviews, add LocalBusiness schema markup, use local keywords ("dentist Belgrade"), build citations on local directories (YellowPages, Halooglasi).
Monitor and iterate
Use Google Search Console (free) for actual ranking data, Google Analytics for traffic, and a rank tracker (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Ubersuggest) for keyword positions. Review monthly: which pages gained/lost rankings, which keywords drive traffic, and adjust strategy.
