cPanel Guides

Guide for using the cPanel control panel.

Accessing cPanel

You can access cPanel in two ways: directly via the URL yourdomain.com:2083 or from the BeoHosting client panel at panel.beohosting.com by clicking the "Login to cPanel" button. Use the credentials you received in the activation email.

Managing files in cPanel

File Manager in cPanel lets you upload, download, edit and delete files directly from your browser. Your site lives in the public_html folder. You can create archives, change file permissions and use the Code Editor for quick edits.

Creating a MySQL database

In cPanel go to MySQL Databases. Enter a database name and click "Create Database". Then create a user with a strong password and grant them all privileges on the database. Remember: the full database and user names include the prefix of your cPanel account.

How to change PHP version in cPanel

Log in to cPanel (yourdomain.com:2083) and in the "Software" section find "MultiPHP Manager". From the drop-down menu select the domain and the desired PHP version (we recommend PHP 8.2 or later for WordPress). Click "Apply" - the change takes effect immediately. In "MultiPHP INI Editor" you can adjust memory_limit, upload_max_filesize and max_execution_time. BeoHosting supports PHP 7.4 through 8.5 with LiteSpeed SAPI.

How to check disk space in cPanel

On the cPanel home page, in the right panel, you can see an overview of disk usage. For details click "Disk Usage" in the "Files" section - it shows usage by folder. The largest consumers are usually backup archives, email attachments, log files and WordPress cache. To free up space: delete old backups, clean up spam in email, compress images and remove old WordPress revisions.

How to set up a redirect in cPanel

In cPanel go to "Domains" > "Redirects". Select the redirect type - "Permanent (301)" for permanent or "Temporary (302)" for temporary redirection. Choose the domain, enter the old path and the full URL of the new location. The "Wild Card Redirect" option redirects all subpages. Click "Add" to save - the change is instant.

How to create a subdomain in cPanel

Log in to cPanel (yourdomain.com:2083) and in the "Domains" section click on "Domains". Click "Create A New Domain" and enter the full subdomain, e.g. blog.yourdomain.com. cPanel will automatically suggest a Document Root folder. Click "Submit" and upload files to the created folder via File Manager or FTP. The DNS record is created automatically if you use BeoHosting nameservers.

How to set up a Cron Job in cPanel

In cPanel go to "Advanced" > "Cron Jobs". Set an email for execution reports. Choose frequency from the drop-down menus or use predefined options like "Once Per Day". In the "Command" field enter the command, e.g. /usr/local/bin/php /home/user/public_html/cron.php. Click "Add New Cron Job" to save.

How to access webmail

You access webmail directly at yourdomain.com:2096 in your browser. Enter the full email address and password. After logging in, choose a webmail client - we recommend Roundcube. Alternatively, access it through cPanel (yourdomain.com:2083) by clicking "Email Accounts" then "Check Email". Webmail works on all devices without installation.

How to view error logs in cPanel

In cPanel go to "Metrics" > "Errors" to view the latest 300 errors. For more detailed logs, in File Manager access the folder /home/user/logs/ where access.log and error.log are located. For WordPress, enable WP_DEBUG in wp-config.php by adding define('WP_DEBUG', true) and define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true) - errors are written to wp-content/debug.log.

How to set the cPanel account password

Log in to cPanel and click on "Password & Security" in the Preferences section. Enter the current password, then a new password or click "Password Generator" for a strong password. The new password must have at least 12 characters with a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Click "Change your password now". If you do not have cPanel access, reset the password from panel.beohosting.com in the Services > Manage section.

How to block an IP address in cPanel

In cPanel open "IP Blocker" in the Security section. Enter the IP address you want to block - a single one (192.168.1.5), a range (192.168.1.1-192.168.1.50) or CIDR format (192.168.1.0/24). Click "Add" to apply the block. Blocked addresses can be removed by clicking "Delete". This tool is useful for stopping spam bots and brute-force attacks. Be careful not to block your own IP address.

How to create an FTP account in cPanel

In cPanel click on "FTP Accounts" in the Files section. Enter a username (e.g. developer), a strong password and in "Directory" specify the folder for access (e.g. public_html/project). Click "Create FTP Account". To connect, use an FTP client (FileZilla) with server stars.beohosting.com, port 21, username in the format developer@yourdomain.com. We recommend FTPS (FTP over TLS) for secure transfer.

How to configure .htaccess rules

Open File Manager in cPanel, go to public_html and click .htaccess (if not visible, in Settings check "Show Hidden Files"). Make a copy before editing. To redirect non-www to www: RewriteEngine On / RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yourdomain\.com$ / RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.yourdomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]. For a custom 404 page: ErrorDocument 404 /404.html. If you get an Error 500, restore the backup.

How to use Terminal in cPanel

In cPanel click "Terminal" in the Advanced section - command line directly in the browser. For WordPress use WP-CLI: "cd public_html" then "wp plugin list" to view plugins or "wp cache flush" to clear cache. You can update WordPress with "wp core update" or all plugins with "wp plugin update --all". Terminal session has a 60-second limit per command.

How to set PHP memory limit in cPanel

In cPanel open MultiPHP INI Editor from the Software section. Choose Basic Mode and select the domain. Find memory_limit and enter a value (e.g. 256M or 512M). Also set max_execution_time (recommended 300 for heavier operations). Click Apply - changes apply immediately without a restart.

How to compress and decompress files in cPanel

Open File Manager and navigate to the folder. To compress, select files, right click > Compress, choose format (ZIP) and enter an archive name. To extract, right click on the archive > Extract. Supported formats are ZIP, tar, tar.gz and bz2. Compression is useful for backup and faster file transfer.

How to set up a password protected directory

In cPanel open Directory Privacy from the Files section. Select a folder and click Edit. Check "Password protect this directory" and enter a zone name. Create a user with username and password, then click Save. Visitors will need to enter the credentials to access that folder.

How to create a MySQL backup via phpMyAdmin

In cPanel open phpMyAdmin, select the database on the left and click the Export tab. Quick method exports the entire database in SQL format. For a selective backup choose Custom and check only specific tables. We recommend the Add DROP TABLE option for easier restore. To import, use the Import tab and select the SQL file.

How to configure Apache Handlers in cPanel

In cPanel open Apache Handlers from the Advanced section. A handler defines how the server processes file types. Enter the Handler name (e.g. cgi-script) and the extension (e.g. .pl), then click Add.
